ACTIVITIES

In addition to our class schedule, we will be offering many other social and creative activities and are open to your initiatives to organize group activities. We will be hosting weekly jams and sharings, inviting local musicians to participate, and a final community performance on the last Saturday to share what we have been working on. Outside of our scheduled activities, there are many things to explore in Canoa if you have the energy for it, including horsebacking riding, ski bunda (like snow boarding on your butt but on sand,) boat rides on the famous jangadas used by the local fishermen, kite surfing, beach buggy rides, not to mention the night life. We highly recommend allowing time outside of your studies to take advantage of this ocean paradise.

TRAVEL INFORMATION

You will be traveling to Canoa Quebrada, in the township of Aracati, State of Ceara, Brazil.

You will want to fly into Fortaleza, the nearest city, about a 2 hour drive from Canoa Quebrada.  We have been finding cheaper flights if you are willing to fly on New Years Eve. We will help arrange transportation from the airport so please let us know when you will be arriving.  Buses are the cheapest way to travel from Fortaleza to Canoa Quebrada (around U$10), but the last one leaves around 6pm, and a cab can take up to 4 people and costs about US$100.

VISA

US Citizens will need a tourist visa to travel to Brazil.
Please visit http://www.brazilsf.org/visa_by_country.htm for more information, and allow plenty of time for processing.  (It is good to apply at least a month before you travel, but once you have your visa you must be traveling within 90 days to validate it.  After that your visa is good for 5 years.)

Go to http://www.brazilsf.org/visa_by_country.htm to see if you need a visa.
